The KVM, Korean Vitra Museum, is the offshore counter-archive of the Vitra Design Museum (Germany). While Vitra presents primarily Euro-American male designers, the KVM is interested in ordinary, vernacular, Asian design, mainly produced by non-professional female designers. For the Compatible Bazaar, the KVM proposed to the surrounding retailers that they lend or exchange a piece of furniture customized by themselves, spontaneously, for their everyday needs. This ephemeral, site specific collection is mimetically staged, as it quotes the canonical displays - part museographical, part commercial - of the famous European furniture design publisher, Vitr(in)a.
