Neon light installation,132 x 27 x 5 cm, 2016

It was dark when I first visited the Bazaar Compatible space, so to counter the gloom, I searched for a sentence with the character 亮 for "bright" and found it in a poem on the internet 答令狐侍郎 "da ling hu shi lang". The poem explains that an old piece of jade when dusted off with a cloth will shine like new. The original poem was written by Wei Yingwu (737-792) from the Tang Dynasty, as a way to provide encouragement to his relative Ling Huhuan, who was demoted from the position of government official to civilian. I hope that this short poem can bring a bit of bright light to this dusty market stall.
