It’s often the simplest objects which are the most perilous to talk about.

“From beginning to end” associate directly the first letter (A) to the last letter (Z) of the latin alphabet. These two characters, fixed perpendicular of each other, create a stable and autonomous structure which can summarize in itself the whole succession off the twenty-six characters.

For the west, the latin alphabet is the simplest expression of the written language. Even more, the alphabet can represent all the orders more or less arbitrary, sometime seductive but generally revolting that we like to impose as human.

“From beginning to end” was conceived and realized in France as a little cardboard model prior of any plan or project of traveling in China.

For the Bazaar Compatible Program, I wanted to oppose the luxuriant and animated bazaar’s life with a unique, static and intelligible object. This object should fill its space like an ideogram is filling its box in a calligraphic exercice.

The glossy and precious finish of the fake China’s lacquer is more reminiscent of the international style, both cold and cheesy, which can be found in luxury hotel than of the vernacular and full of life human activity found in the street, yet by reflecting a somewhat blurry and deformed image of the bazaar’s shop “from beginning to end” is definitively part of the bazaar’s life.
